How we estimate 80M+ devices under management
What's counted, how the estimate is derived, and why we can't measure it directly.
The figure covers every network device actively backed up and managed by an rConfig instance, across all three editions: V8 Core, V8 Pro, and Enterprise and Vector. It is an estimate, not a measurement, and we label it that way everywhere it appears.
We derive it from install counts across the three editions, combined with the typical fleet sizes we know from Pro and Enterprise licensing and deployment conversations, extrapolated across the much larger Core install base to arrive at a total.
We can't measure it directly because rConfig does not phone home. Core is free, self-hosted, and reports nothing back to us. Pro and Enterprise deployments run on infrastructure their owners control, not ours. That absence of visibility is a deliberate consequence of a self-hosted, no-phone-home design, the same design decision this figure is meant to be evidence for, not an excuse to avoid.
