The Motadata Alternative for Network Configuration Management
Motadata NCCM is a configuration module inside a monitoring platform. rConfig is network configuration management built as a product in its own right: multi-vendor backup, change detection, compliance and automation, with a free open-source Core, published pricing and a public benchmark of 50,000 devices on a single host.

Who replaces Motadata NCCM, and why
Teams that look past Motadata for configuration management usually want one of three things.
NCM you can buy on its own
Motadata NCCM is licensed as part of the ObserveOps platform. rConfig is configuration management and nothing else, and rConfig Core is free and open source with no device limit.
See the editionsScale you can check
rConfig has been benchmarked at 50,000 devices in under 21 minutes on one Linux host, and the method is published. Motadata does not publish a scale figure.
How we measured itReach beyond IT gear
rConfig backs up SCADA systems, PLCs and specialised OT equipment over SSH, Telnet, API or its scripting engine.

Where Motadata is the better fit
- One console for monitoring and configuration. If you want config backup inside your monitoring platform, Motadata does that and rConfig does not. rConfig integrates with Zabbix, Checkmk, PRTG, AKIPS and Statseeker instead.
- ITSM in the same family. Motadata ServiceOps ties change tickets to the same vendor's platform. rConfig is not an ITSM tool.
- End-of-life data per device. Motadata shows end of sale, support and life on each NCCM device page.
What you gain with a dedicated NCM
Architecture built for enterprise and service provider scale
rConfig Vector runs a central server with lightweight agents at each site. Agents connect outbound only, over TLS, so there are no inbound firewall rules and no VPNs, and device credentials stay on the site. MSPs get hierarchical RBAC and Vector Prism, a branded customer portal with mandatory MFA. rConfig is used by more than 10,000 engineers, with over 80 million network, IoT and OT devices under management (an estimate, because rConfig does not phone home). The numbers are public: The 50,000 device benchmark backed up 50,000 devices in under 21 minutes on a single 16 GB, eight-core host, and there is a reference architecture for more than 100,000 nodes. Single sign-on, the REST API, containers and air-gapped deployment come with every edition, including Core.
Run it alongside ObserveOps
Keep Motadata for monitoring and move configuration management to rConfig. Change alerts go to your existing syslog or ITSM. How it works alongside
OT and IoT backups, not just routers and switches
rConfig backs up the devices that rarely make it into a configuration tool: SCADA systems, PLCs, roadside signage and legacy voice. Its scripting engine handles awkward prompts on specialised OT equipment, and API-driven backups cover devices with no CLI. One manufacturer uses rConfig for 24/7 change monitoring on its PLC and aggregation networks under IEC 62443. See OT and multi-vendor support and the manufacturing case study.
Motadata licensing and pricing, explained
What Motadata publishes
Motadata does not publish prices. 10 It offers a 30 day free trial and no free edition. 9 On ObserveOps Infinity, generally available since August 2026, configuration management is counted as a “Managed Network Device” licence, on one year, three year or perpetual terms, within the ObserveOps platform. 2

Running rConfig alongside or instead of Motadata
Alongside
Keep Motadata ObserveOps for monitoring and move configuration management to rConfig. Send rConfig change alerts to your existing syslog or ITSM.
Instead
Five steps:
- Export your device inventory, or sync it from NetBox or Nautobot.
- Install rConfig Core or Enterprise.
- Import devices and map credentials, or point rConfig at HashiCorp Vault.
- Run a first backup and compare it with your latest Motadata backup.
- Run both for one change cycle, then retire the Motadata NCCM schedules.

Motadata alternative: common questions
Evaluation questions teams ask before they move configuration management off Motadata NCCM.
Is rConfig a good Motadata alternative?
rConfig does one job, network configuration management, and is built to do it at scale: multi-vendor backup, change detection, compliance, restore and configuration push, with published prices and a free, open-source Core. Motadata NCCM covers similar tasks as one module of its ObserveOps monitoring platform.
What is Motadata NCCM, and who makes it?
NCCM (Network Configuration and Compliance Management) is a module of Motadata ObserveOps, formerly called Motadata AIOps. Motadata is developed by Mindarray Systems Limited, based in Ahmedabad, India.
How much does Motadata cost?
Motadata does not publish prices. It offers a 30 day free trial. On ObserveOps Infinity, configuration management is licensed per managed network device. rConfig's prices are on rconfig.com, and Core is free.
Is there a free alternative to Motadata for network configuration management?
Yes. rConfig Core is free and open source, with no device limit. It backs up, searches, compares and tracks changes across multi-vendor networks, and includes single sign-on.
Can I buy Motadata NCCM without ObserveOps?
Motadata licenses NCCM as a "Managed Network Device" unit within the ObserveOps platform. Check the current terms with Motadata. rConfig is sold only as configuration management, so there is no wider platform to license.
Can rConfig back up OT and IoT devices?
Yes. rConfig backs up SCADA systems, PLCs, roadside signage, legacy voice systems and specialised OT equipment over SSH, Telnet, API or its scripting engine, and Vector Agent supports air-gapped and OT networks.
How does rConfig scale compared with Motadata?
rConfig has been benchmarked at 50,000 devices in under 21 minutes on a single host, and publishes a reference architecture for more than 100,000 nodes. Motadata does not publish a scale figure for NCCM.
Does rConfig support MSPs and multi-tenancy?
Yes. rConfig Vector provides hierarchical RBAC across customers, and Vector Prism gives each customer a branded portal with mandatory MFA.
Can I use rConfig alongside Motadata ObserveOps?
Yes. Many teams keep their monitoring platform and run rConfig for configuration management. rConfig change alerts can go to your existing syslog or ITSM.
Where is Motadata a better fit than rConfig?
If you want monitoring, logs, flow and configuration management in one console, or ITSM from the same vendor, Motadata covers that and rConfig does not. rConfig integrates with monitoring tools such as Zabbix, Checkmk and PRTG instead.
How do we move from Motadata NCCM to rConfig?
Export or sync your device inventory, install rConfig, import devices and credentials, run a first backup and compare it with your latest Motadata backup, then run both for one change cycle before retiring the Motadata schedules.
