rConfig Adds Generative AI and MCP Integration to Its Network Configuration Manager, Bring Your Own Model, No Additional Licence

rConfig today launched in-app Generative AI and MCP AI integration for its network configuration platform. Both features ship free of charge, run on a bring-your-own-model basis against OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or any compatible provider, and were unveiled live at Zabbix Summit 2025 in Riga.

rConfig, the Irish-built network configuration management platform, today launched two new AI capabilities for the platform: in-app Generative AI for configuration and state analysis, and an MCP AI integration aimed at developers and automation engineers.

Both features were unveiled live at Zabbix Summit 2025 in Riga. Both ship free of charge, with no additional licensing fees, no subscriptions, and no data capture.

Bring your own model#

Unlike the "AI-as-a-service" add-ons appearing across the NCM market, rConfig's implementation is bring-your-own-model. Customers connect rConfig to OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or any compatible Generative AI service using their own API keys. The connection is direct, and rConfig is not in the path of the data.

The result is that network teams keep full control of their configurations, their prompts, and their compliance boundaries while still getting the in-app intelligence.

"We are setting a clear position on how AI belongs in network operations. No data harvesting. No additional billing. Just embedded AI that helps engineers analyse configurations, spot risks, and explain complex systems without lifting data out of the platform."

— Stephen Stack, CTO of rConfig

In-app Generative AI#

rConfig GenAI lets users interact with configurations and state data in natural language. Typical questions include:

  • Why did this routing table change overnight?
  • Show me potential security gaps in this configuration.
  • Summarise the differences between last week's backup and today's.

The same capability doubles as a training aid. Junior engineers can ask the assistant to break down a complex configuration into a plain-language explanation, with the actual configuration text sitting alongside it for context.

MCP AI integration#

The MCP integration goes further for developers and automation engineers. By linking rConfig to Claude Code, Codex, or Gemini Code Assist over the Model Context Protocol, teams can query rConfig's APIs and data models conversationally from inside their development environment. The use cases this opens up include writing automation scripts, building integrations, and analysing configuration history, all without context-switching between the NCM and the IDE.

Why it matters#

rConfig is the first network configuration platform to combine in-app Generative AI and MCP AI integration, with both running on a bring-your-own-model basis. The combination changes how network teams analyse state, audit compliance, and design automation, and it does so without putting customer data into a vendor-controlled AI pipeline.

The launch follows the recent rConfig V8 release, which introduced the Vector distributed architecture, expanded compliance frameworks, and verified performance against estates of more than 20,000 devices.

"Openness and trust have always been the point of rConfig. The mission is straightforward: make enterprise-grade network automation accessible, affordable, and intelligent, without locking anyone into a specific AI vendor."

— Stephen Stack, CTO of rConfig

Availability#

Both the Generative AI and MCP AI integrations are available immediately to all rConfig customers, across Core, Pro, and Vector Enterprise editions, at no additional cost. Configuration documentation and the supported provider list are at rconfig.com.
